Why Fort Worth Is Hard on Air Conditioners
Ask any HVAC tech who has worked in more than one state and they will tell you the same thing: North Texas eats systems.
It is not just the heat. It is the length of it. A Fort Worth AC runs hard from May through late September — five months of near-continuous load, often with attic temperatures above 130°. Then there is what is in the air. Cottonwood in early summer. Grass clippings from every mow. Construction dust from the north side developments. The three failures we see most
Capacitors. This is the single most common Fort Worth summer call. A capacitor is a small part that gives the compressor the jolt it needs to start. Heat degrades them. The middle ground is where honesty matters. A 12-year-old system with a $900 repair is a real decision — not an automatic sale. If a company reaches for the replacement quote before diagnosing, that is a signal.
One thing worth knowing: R-22 systems (pre-2010, roughly) are increasingly expensive to service because the refrigerant is being phased out. If yours is an R-22 unit and it needs refrigerant, the math shifts toward replacement faster than it used to. That is a real factor, not a sales line.
What “Upfront Pricing” Should Actually Mean

Questions Worth Asking Any HVAC Company
Before you hand over your credit card, ask these. The answers tell you more than any review page.
“Can I see the failed part?” A real technician will show you. Someone who cannot produce the capacitor they charged you for is a problem.
“Is this price written down before you start?” Yes or no. There is no third answer.
“What happens if this fails again next month?” Ask about the workmanship guarantee specifically, not the parts warranty. Parts are covered by the manufacturer. Labor is where companies differ.
“Why is replacement better than repair here?” If the answer is about your comfort and your numbers, good. If it is about efficiency ratings and rebates before they have even diagnosed the fault, you are being sold to.
“Are your technicians background-checked?” You are letting someone into your home, often when you are not there. This is a fair question and any real company answers it without hesitating.
What Happens When You Call Us
